On October 9, 2018, in Department 7 of the El Dorado County Superior Court, Gloria Rodrigues plead guilty to one count of embezzlement and three counts of forgery as a result of her theft of over $50,000 from the Oak Ridge High School Music Booster's Club.
Rodrigues had served as the treasurer of the organization from 2016-2018 and during that time used her position to take cash and forge donation checks, using the money for her own personal use. Rodrigues admitted her guilt immediately upon being contacted by law enforcement and quickly paid back more than $50,000 prior to entering her guilty pleas. Ms. Rodrigues was ordered to continue making restitution through the District Attorney's Office to pay for additional monetary losses suffered by the Booster's Club as a result of her criminality.
Due to Ms. Rodrigues' early admission of guilt and payment of restitution, she was permitted to plead to misdemeanor charges. Ms. Rodrigues was placed on four years of probation and will serve seventy days in county jail. Should Ms. Rodrigues violate probation, she faces a maximum term of four years in county jail. In addition, she is prohibited from being an officer or assisting in the running of any school related organizations for the period of her probation.
