HONORING A FALLEN HERO-STAFF SGT. SKY MOTE

Today marks the 6th anniversary of SSgt. Sky Mote's return home.

On August 10, 2012, Marine SSgt. Sky Mote was killed in action with two of his MARSOC teammates in Afghanistan. For his heroism on that fateful day, SSgt. Mote was awarded the Navy Cross, the second-highest medal of valor awarded to a member of the United States Navy, Marines or Coast Guard.

SSgt. Mote was a 2003 graduate of Union Mine High School here in El Dorado County.  Upon graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country for 9 years including 3 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

"May Sky Mote's heroism and sacrifice, and the sacrifice of his family, never be forgotten."  Vern Pierson 2017
