Placerville Man sent to Prison for Domestic Violence

Garrett Richard Vanwey, age 22, was sentenced to 2 years in the State's Prison for Felony Domestic Violence.

Early morning on July 13, 2018, Vanwey physically attacked his girlfriend who was staying with Vanwey in his apartment in Placerville.  During the unprovoked assault, Vanwey threw the victim to the ground causing a small laceration behind her left ear.  A friend who was visiting Vanwey's apartment, heard the assault and intervened.  Vanwey then fled to avoid being arrested.  Later that evening, Placerville Police received a report of a suspicious subject on the walking trail near Schnell School Road.  Upon arrival, they found the defendant, who had spent the day hiding in the woods along side the trail.  Due to the heat, Vanwey was dehydrated and showing signs of heat exhaustion that required medical treatment.

The case was investigated by the Placerville Police Department and prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Kassie Cardullo who is assigned to the Special Victim's Vertical Prosecution Unit.
