Sword Assailant Denied Parole

On July 25, 2018, a parole board denied Steven Wasserman release on his 2006 conviction for Aggravated Mayhem.  Prior to reaching its decision to deny parole; the Parole Board heard from the victim's daughter, two sisters, and husband, who also spoke on behalf of the victim since she had succumbed to cancer in 2017.

Wasserman is serving a life sentence for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment in October 2005 and attacking her with a sword that he had brought with him while her young daughter was in the room.  Although she suffered multiple life threatening injuries, the victim survived; however she had to endure multiple surgeries and months in the hospital as a result of the vicious attack.

This was Wasserman's second time before the parole board and the second time he was denied parole.  Following this hearing, Wasserman was denied parole for an additional 5 years and he remains incarcerated at Valley State Prison in Chowchilla, California.
