CAB DRIVER ALERTS AUTHORITIES TO CHILD IN DANGER

Monique Jessica Guzik, age 41, was convicted of Child Endangerment, in violation of Penal Code Section 273a(b).

Guzik, who is on probation for misdemeanor DUI, called a cab to take her and her 9 month-old-child to Safeway.  The cab driver became concerned due to Guzik's extreme intoxication and even more concerned when she returned to the cab from the store having purchased more alcohol and notified the police.  When Placerville Police arrived at Guzik's apartment to check on the child, they found the child unattended in a car seat perched on a couch in need of a diaper change.  Guzik was determined to be incapable of caring for the child due to her level of intoxication and no other adult was present to care for the child.

Guzik was sentenced to 120 days in the county jail, placed on 4 years of supervised probation and ordered to attend and complete a year-long parenting class.  She was also ordered to abstain from alcohol and cooperate with a CPS Parenting Plan.
