Sex Offender Sent to Prison for Failing to Register

Posted: June 19, 2018

On June 18, 2018, Alan Jerome Vetter, age 58, was convicted of felony failure to register as a sex offender.

El Dorado Sheriff's Detective Rich Horn, who at that time was in charge of checking the registration status of sex offenders in the county, became suspicious that Vetter was no longer living at the address he used to register after hearing that Vetter had been contacted several times by law enforcement sleeping in his car.  Detective Horn conducted a brief investigation confirming Vetter no longer lived at the address he previously provided and that Vetter had failed to update his registration.

Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter sentenced Vetter to 16 months in state prison for the violation.  Vetter is required to register as a sex offender based on a 1992 conviction for felony assault with intent to commit rape.  Although Vetter has several additional felony convictions since 1992, this is his 1st for failing to register as a sex offender.
