South Lake Tahoe Resident Convicted of Felony Identity Theft

Posted: May 08, 2018

South Lake Tahoe resident Shelli Patrice Peyton, age 56, was convicted of felony identity theft on May 4, 2018.

Peyton was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for suspected traffic infractions.  Because she was on probation for a prior misdemeanor theft conviction, she was searched by the investigating officers.  During the search, personal identifying information belonging to other people that had been stolen on a prior occasion, including birth certificates, driver's licenses and stock receipts were recovered, along with illegal narcotics.

Peyton was sentenced to two years in the county prison.  The case was investigated by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Tony Sears.
