National Victims Crime Week...Hidden Domestic Violence Victims

Millions of innocent children a year are hidden victims of domestic violence.  These young, impressionable minds witness horrendous acts of violence, often against the person from whom they rely on for love, comfort and security.  Not only does domestic violence have long term negative effects on the victim of the actual abuse, it also causes lasting problems for the children who witness the violence.

In our continuous efforts to look towards more ways to expand the circle and reach more victims, the El Dorado County District Attorney Office has implemented new protocols aimed to help child witnesses of domestic violence.  Forensically trained professionals interview minor witnesses about observed violence in a child friendly atmosphere.  Counseling services provided ensure minors have the tools needed to truly stop the cycle of violence from reaching additional generations. District Attorney Vern Pierson stated, It is imperative that we commit to educating future generations so they can be better equipped to stop domestic violence situations before they start.
