District Attorney Vern Pierson Kicks Off National Crime Victims Rights Week

Today, April 9, 2018, the District Attorneys Office kicked off National Crime Victims Rights Week with a Commemoration and Appreciation Ceremony.  Celebrating the theme for this year, Expand the Circle; Reach All Victims, District Attorney Vern Pierson brought together community leaders, victim service providers, law enforcement and criminal justice professionals to honor victims and the professionals who serve them.

Our primary mission is to serve victims of crime and today we celebrate the courage and strength of victims and survivors. We also honor and celebrate the expanding circle of professionals prepared to respond to victim safety, healing and access to justice in El Dorado County, said District Attorney Pierson.  We are grateful for our strong partnerships that allow us to achieve justice for victims and survivors and bring resilience to our community.

Special honorees included El Dorado County Sheriff Detective Rich Horn who received the Katie Dobler Above and Beyond Award for his dedication to the investigation of crimes against victims of murder, domestic violence, human trafficking and sex offenses.  Laura Barber from Live Violence Free was awarded the Starfish You Make a Difference Award for her 13 years of advocacy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse.
